The City of Nacogdoches
The City of Nacogdoches has a council-manager form of government, which combines strong political leadership, representative democracy through elected officials, and professional management. Under this form, members of the Council set the municipal government policies while the City Manager, who is appointed by the Council, assumes administrative responsibility of municipal government operations. As determined by the city charter, Nacogdoches City Council consists of five members – one member elected by each of the four wards and one member elected at-large as Mayor – for terms of two years each.

The Nacogdoches County government is administered by a Commissioner's Court system. The five-member court is comprised of the county judge and four commissioners. The commissioners are elected by precinct, and the county judge is elected at-large. The court is responsible for setting the county's annual tax rate, approving the tax roll and supervising all expenditures of county money. The court is also responsible for issuing bonds to finance capital improvements.
