On Tuesday, October 18, the president and CEO of the Texas Economic Development Corporation, Tracye McDaniel, congratulated the city’s Tricentennial and the EDC’s 20th anniversary.

“I think you need to give yourself a round of applause for that,” McDaniel said. “With 300 years of a rich history, the future is bright here.”

McDaniel spoke to a crowded room at the EDC’s annual board meeting and luncheon at SFA.

“Once driven largely by agriculture, Nacogdoches has transformed into a dynamic business region and an important economic driver for Texas – all while remaining rooted in its rich history,” she said.

McDaniel praised the ongoing renovation of The Fredonia Hotel and stressed its importance to downtown Nacogdoches. She also applauded the continuance to enhance the region’s tourism and quality of life set forth by Dr. Ab Aberethy and his plan for the city’s many trails and creeks. She repeatedly commended the “diversity” of the community.

“Nacogdoches is certainly a success story in collaboration – and I hope you’ve seen that you have a great deal of support at the state level,” she said.

With more than 30 years experience “as a widely recognized strategist in all facets of economic development,” McDaniel has been executive director of the Office of the Governor Economic Development and Tourism Division and Executive Vice President of the Greater Houston Partnership, according to a press release. Most recently, McDaniel was appointed by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie as president and CEO of Choose New Jersey, Inc.
