Natural Resources

• Renewable Energy – Southern Power Company owns and operates the Nacogdoches Generating Plant, the largest wood-fueled biomass power generation facility in the U.S. The 100 MW power plant became operational in June 2012 and has a 20-year power purchase agreement with the City of Austin.
• Natural Gas – Nacogdoches County is located in East Texas in the midst of the Haynesville Shale.

  Geography

• Regional Operating Offices & Headquarters – Nacogdoches County, an logical site for regional operating offices for oil and gas companies, is located midway between Shreveport and Houston on US-59. With an urban population of 33,000 (65,000 in the county), it is the only city/town between Shreveport and Nacogdoches with a population greater than 10,000.

• Stephen F. Austin State University – with 13,000 students and 1,500 faculty/staff, SFASU is the only state university in this heavily rural region; in addition to offering numerous degrees in the physical sciences, the university also offers a Petroleum Land Management Certification through its College of Business
• Nacogdoches Technical Training Center – the Technical Training Center’s new Petroleum Technology program, a partnership with Angelina College and Panola College, offers a two-year (Associate degree) training and certification program for oil and gas industry workforce
